Cue Slam is a unique cue-sports league initiated by SportzLive and Billiards & Snooker Federation of India (BSFI). It is a first-of-its-kind franchise-based Indian league featuring top names and the most promising talent from the world of cue sports. Cue Slam is comprised of franchises from Delhi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad and Chennai. Each team features a combination of Indian and international (male/female) players who compete against each other during the competition to win the Cue Slam title. The first season of Cue Slam was held from the 19th-25th of August 2017, in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
The league showcases cue sports in a different light with some off-beat concepts like a shot clock for each shot to make the sport more spectator friendly. The players are permitted to use hot microphones to allow “soft sledging” while the crowd and fans are allowed to cheer, hoot or distract the opposition player (within defined and permissible limits). With such innovations in the sport, and the success of the inaugural season, Cue Slam is expected to be a premium sporting league in the calendar year
Why Cue Sports
Cue Sports are one of the most popular indoor sports played in India. More than two million amateurs are believed to play one or more forms of the sport regularly. The popularity of the sport, even as a pastime, is high in Tier 1 cities of India and the game is cherished in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities as well. Moreover, the sport enjoys a rich history in India with legends like Wilson Jones (Padmashree), Michael Ferrara (Padmabhushan) and Geet Sethi (Padmashree & Khel Ratna) passing the baton to champions like Pankaj Advani (Padmashree & Khel Ratna). Cue Sports are television friendly as well, and with the new concepts introduced in the inaugural season of Cue Slam, was even more so, which can be seen from the success of the league.
